Islands were important to the Templars

When the Templar fleet left France a few days before Friday October 13, 1307 where did they go? Not only were the Templars powerful soldiers but they had built a strong and fast fleet to carry the pilgrims and to support their trading. They knew they could not defend themselves on the mainland where they could be attacked by foot soldiers. So they headed to ports on islands that were friendly toward them. To take an island from a well-defended enemy requires a much larger force of ships and men and the loss to the invaders is surely going to be high.
